Controlled airflow for safe and stable processing

LAF downflow booths create a controlled working environment through targeted air recirculation and vertical airflow. This supports safe weighing and sampling of powdered substances while maintaining stable conditions and protecting adjacent areas from contamination.

Benefits

High product protection

Achieve controlled conditions through unidirectional airflow (UDAF) that captures and removes airborne particles in a controlled manner.

Reduce contamination risks

Minimize contamination risks through targeted air circulation during powder handling.

Enable personnel safety

Protect operators from airborne hazards exposure during weighing and sampling of different substances.

Stabilize environmental conditions

Optimize temperature and humidity levels to ensure product stability throughout the manufacturing process.

Increased cleanroom class

A LAF device in a cleanroom increases the cleanroom class by one level. This means that LAF can provide cleanroom class A conditions within a cleanroom class B environment.

Key features

A LAF downflow booth is a specific type of LAF system. This specialized clean air enclosure is designed to provide a controlled, particle-free working environment while also protecting the operator. By using an unidirectional airflow (UDAF), where HEPA-filtered air moves uniformly from the top downward, it sweeps contaminants away from the work area and prevents their spread.

Downflow booths are typically large, semi-enclosed structures that allow personnel to work inside them, making them ideal for tasks such as pharmaceutical sampling, weighing, and powder handling.

For weighing applications, downflow booths generate a slight negative pressure to permanently protect the ambient area against contamination without needing a connection to on-site exhaust systems.

  • Recirculation system: Unidirectional airflow (UDAF) ensures controlled handling of airborne particles during processing.
  • HEPA filtration: H14 filters are used for both process and exhaust air to maintain clean air conditions.
  • Negative pressure control: Integrated exhaust systems create slight negative pressure to protect surrounding areas from contamination.
  • Independent operation: Weighing booths do not require connection to on-site air supply or exhaust systems.
  • Material construction: Self-supporting stainless steel (1.4301) or sheet steel design supports durability and compliance.
  • Cooling system: Integrated cooling with mixed water control enables condensate-free operation.
  • GMP and FDA-compliant design: LAF systems and LAF downflow booths meet rigorous pharmaceutical industry standards.
