The NeoTOPx is an advanced packaging solution that combines sustainability, efficiency, and product safety in pharmaceutical operations. By replacing pre-made plastic trays with 100 percent recyclable paperboard, NeoTOP significantly reduces environmental impact, simplifies waste management, and lowers disposal costs—supporting circular economy principles.
NeoTOP perfectly aligns with our monomaterial packaging design services, ensuring that all packaging components are made from a single material cardboard—simplifying recycling and reducing environmental burden. This design philosophy reinforces sustainability while maintaining premium product protection. NeoTOP enhances operational flexibility by accommodating multiple packaging formats within a single size, enabling quick format changes and rapid production starts. Its modular design allows seamless adaptation to diverse product types—vials, syringes, ampoules, pens, and more—while ensuring compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. By handling flat carton and partition blanks, NeoTOP eliminates the need for pre-glued cartons, reducing material usage and supply chain complexity.

B.R.AI.N revolutionizes automated visual inspection by integrating Al models into recipes, delivering superior accuracy and efficiency. Building on our proven InspectifAl and Eject-X solutions, B.R.AI.N uses a minimally invasive approach, embedding supervised deep learning models directly into high-speed production lines—ensuring rapid implementation and full compliance with all relevant GP (Good Practice) quality standards.
By reducing false ejects by up to 90 percent, B.R.Al.N minimizes product waste and re-inspection workloads, where traditional fixed-threshold inspection can cause false-eject rates of up to 15 percent, costing millions annually. In addition, operational capacity increases through faster time-to-market per batch and zero production downtime, since all model development happens in the cloud-based B.R.AI.N platform. The quicker ramp-up also reduces resource consumption and lowers operational effort. Delivered through a standardized six-step process—identify, label &amp; train, deploy, qualify, monitor, and improve— B.R.AI.N ensures robust performance under high-speed, high-volume conditions. B.R.AI.N can be implemented immediately—on new GPU-equipped machines or via a lean retrofit that extends asset life—delivering a smarter, more sustainable inspection solution that improves efficiency, reduces waste, and enhances product quality.

Gantry 2.0 introduces major sustainability enhancements compared to its predecessor. By using standard 40" containers instead of special transport solutions, the system reduces complexity, cuts logistics costs by over 50 percent, and significantly lowers transport-related emissions. Its modular LEGO-style design optimizes shipping efficiency and minimizes packaging waste, resulting in fewer materials and reduced environmental impact.
Energy efficiency is a core improvement: the new linear magnetic servo drive replaces gearboxes and belts, reducing mechanical stress and maintenance while enabling brake energy harvesting, which can return up to 12,702 kWh annually to the grid during continuous operation. The removal of brake resistors and intelligent motion control reduces unnecessary movements, lowering power consumption. Additionally, Gantry 2.0's streamlined design supports longer component life and fewer service interventions, further reducing resource use throughout the product lifecycle. Together, these innovations reduce energy demand, decrease material consumption, and ultimately deliver lower emissions and improved lifecycle sustainability.

The VarioSort 5.0 significantly enhances sustainability through advanced energy-efficient technology and material optimization. Its core innovation is the linear synchronous motor (LSM), which replaces traditional polar wheel drives, reducing power consumption by 44 percent and improving efficiency from 40-45 percent to 75-80 percent.
This contactless drive system uses low-cost ferrite magnets, eliminating encapsulation and minimizing resource use. The design ensures consistent speed, controlled braking, and lower noise emissions, contributing to a quieter and safer work environment. Infrared point-to-point communication further reduces interference and complexity, enhancing reliability without additional energy overhead. Additionally, the system integrates Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for key components, supporting transparency and lifecycle impact reduction as part of Körber's Ecodesign initiative. VarioSort 5.0 delivers a substantial decrease in operational energy demand and material footprint.

The Business Area Technologies not only supplies machinery but also offers digital solutions as Software as a Service. Sustainability is a core element of this portfolio. We have already reduced CO2e emissions in both the development and operation of our digital products—benefiting our own processes as well as those of our customers.
A central focus is our application development environment. Our digital solutions collect and process machine and customer data in the cloud to continually improve equipment efficiency. To reduce emissions from these cloud operations, we reviewed whether all computing power in our Microsoft environment is truly needed or whether applications could be shut down or put on standby to save energy. Over the past 12 months, we have reduced the CO₂e emissions of our cloud-based software solutions by 65 percent.
Microsoft's analysis currently shows no further optimization potential. However, we continuously reassess our resource usage to uncover new reduction opportunities. This ongoing review also strengthens awareness of responsible energy and resource consumption across the organization.

Tobacco preparation is an energy-intensive process, especially during drying. With the HDT3 dryer, we apply advanced engineering to significantly increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
Traditional drying requires high heat input and often releases unfiltered steam into the environment. The HDT3 addresses both challenges with an optimized drying system and intelligent process control that noticeably lowers energy consumption and creates a cleaner process with reduced steam release and fewer environmental emissions.
As customers seek to reduce fossil fuel use and CO2e emissions, electric heating is becoming increasingly important. We have already developed and built an electric version of the HDT3, with scalable heater designs for sizes 1 to 4—an important milestone on the path toward fossil-free drying.
To further minimize environmental impact, the HDT3 can be combined with our PGT system, which condenses and purifies exhaust gases. This not only reduces steam emissions but also recovers valuable energy. Together, the HDT3 and PGT systems offer a forward-looking, sustainable solution that supports cleaner and more efficient production processes.
