JYSK is moving ahead with the construction of its new distribution center in Almenara, Spain — a strategic project where Körber plays a key role in delivering the material handling and operational flow solutions. AR Racking is providing a customized racking system for the storage, while Körber is implementing the advanced automation technologies that will power the facility.

“It is amazing to see this new distribution center from JYSK coming to live in Spain, and we are honored to be once again their trusted partner for the integrated automation project which will be the backbone of their demanding daily operations. This project is a great example of Körber’s capabilities to deliver end-to-end solutions to our customers with the perfect combination of a strong local presence in Iberia and a global organization.” says Paola Elizalde, VP Sales & Marketing EMEA at Körber Supply Chain.

The 274,000-square-metre site in Almenara is being developed to support JYSK’s rapid growth in Spain and Portugal. Once completed, the center will serve as a cornerstone of the retailer’s logistics network in Southern Europe. “Our new distribution center in Spain will not only create local jobs and a fantastic workplace but also support JYSK in our ongoing expansion in the region, where we see potential for 300 stores in Spain and 80 in Portugal. This growth can only be achieved with a strong logistics network,” says Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics at JYSK.

Körber technology at the heart of JYSK’s logistics future

Körber is delivering the automated material handling system for the Almenara site. Its design ensures a traceable, balanced, and synchronized flow of pallets, trays and collies throughout the order fulfillment process. For the e-commerce operations, the Körber Pick & Pack Center supports a fast, flexible, and ergonomic order-picking process, enabling JYSK to meet customer expectations consistently — both in day-to-day operations and during peak periods.
At the same time, AR Racking is installing a tailored racking solution for the high-bay warehouses to maximize capacity and enhance efficiency, fully integrated with Körber’s technology.

A proven partnership

The Spain distribution center marks the fourth major collaboration between Körber and JYSK. Over the years, the two companies have built a strong relationship founded on trust and successful project execution. Körber has previously delivered logistics automation and software solutions for JYSK’s automated distribution centers in Bozhurishte, Bulgary and in Ecser, Hungary, as well as for the upcoming distribution center in Lelystad, the Netherlands. These projects underline the depth of the partnership and Körber’s role as a long-term logistics technology partner for JYSK.

The new distribution center in Almenara includes:

  • 2 high-bays with 182,500 pallet locations, operated by 20 stacker cranes
  • 2 RGV loops for most efficient pallet transport on 1.5 km track system
  • Shuttle warehouse for cases with storage locations for more than 200.000 collies
  • Robotic layer picking and automated downstream tray loading system
  • Automated tray and tote unloading robotic solution
  • Solar panels on the roof to provide energy for the facility
  • In addition, the buildings will include office space for the head office of JYSK Spain and Portugal. In total, JYSK expects that the distribution center and head office will become the new workplace for approximately 250 employees.
  • The new distribution center in Almenara is scheduled to be operational in 2028. Until then, JYSK’s rented facility in Cheste, west of Valencia, continues to supply stores in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
